Smalley's Animal Hospital

Dr. James L. Smalley started this practice out of a small office above what is now a downtown Dublin boot store, back when veterinary medicine in Laurens County meant almost entirely farm calls — pigs, cows, and mules, in an era when the family farm still shaped the local economy. Generations later it remains one of the oldest veterinary practices in the region and one of the few that still serves both ends of that spectrum, offering full small and large animal medicine and surgery to Laurens and the surrounding counties under the guiding motto "Mending God's Creatures, Great and Small." Current owner Dr. James Hobby leads a team that includes Drs. Hatcher and Richie, all of whom clients describe as taking real time to explain what's happening and why. Services span preventive medicine, internal medicine, surgery and dentistry, and large animal medicine and surgery, backed by comprehensive in-house diagnostics including routine blood work, urinalysis, digital radiology, and ultrasonography — with specialty testing sent out to affiliated universities and diagnostic laboratories when a case calls for more.
