Founded in 1978 by Dr. John Gustafson immediately upon his graduation from Ohio State's College of Veterinary Medicine, Hi-Rock Animal Hospital has anchored Western Maryland's Allegany County for nearly five decades under continuous family ownership. Dr. John Gustafson II joined in 2011 after earning his DVM from the University of Georgia, making this a genuine two-generation practice — and the continuity extends past the doctors, with an office manager of 20 years and a facility coordinator on staff for 15. Care for dogs and cats covers wellness programs tailored to puppies, kittens, adults, and seniors, along with vaccinations, parasite and flea prevention, dental care, spay and neuter, and sick visits for pets who aren't themselves. An in-house laboratory and diagnostic capability keep answers close at hand, and an on-site pharmacy means prescriptions get filled before a family leaves the building.
